i went to get my hair done and my beautician happens to be a dub.
she has known me and my family for a long time and she has an idea that im "inactive" but thankfully she hasnt been really nosy otherwise i would take my business elsewhere.
anyway, i've long since faded and when i do go to get my hair done i manage to avoid all "jehoober" related conversation and have so far been successful.
I would have gotton all red in the face and come up with some lame excuse to leave. I hope someday I am not freaked out. I am just now starting to be able to have conversations with my mother letting her know that I really don't agree. It still makes me ill!

this is very interesting and i believe there is something in these sweeteners.. .
please read .
subject: all diet soda drinkers beware .
Holy Cow!
My MIL has been getting after me lately when she sees me drinking diet anything. I thought she was just being freaky. Thank you for this post. I will make sure that I check everything now. She really got excited when my son (who is 10) drank my diet Pepsi. I have been following the South Beach diet for the last two months and I have bought sugar-free stuff all along. I guess if it isn't made with Splenda, I don't want it~unless that is bad for you also. Does anyone know if there is any undesireable effects with Splenda. I think it is just another form of sugar, right?

this may sound funny, but my family would celebrate every year a " gift day".
it would be in december but never the week of christmas.
we would get gifts for each other and have a family meal.
My mother was in and my dad was out, so we celebrated their anniversary. The only holiday allowed right? I read that in someone else's post too. My mom thought it was important to teach her children the "better to give than receive" rule. We also always went to my dads family for Thanksgiving, but it was always said that it was just because everyone was off work and we could all get together.
Friends of ours did celebrate their kids b-days. They allowed the kids to pick whatever the family ate for dinner that day. How lame.
These days I celebrate EVERYTHING- and I love it!

my dil has begun a "book study" with a group of ladies each thursday pm and they study a chapter in this book "the purpose driven life".
by arthur warren.
i went to their website http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/index.asp and am checking it out.
Wednesday,
I have read the book and I did find it harmless and helpful. What is did was reinforce many of the questions that I already had about Christ and grace and acceptance of myself- something I am struggling with! My mother-in-laws church was studying it and she gave me a copy. I still enjoy going back and reading!

and how many of you feel because of that, you never really got to be a "teenager"?

I was also raised a JW, and as a good little girl. I stayed away from all of those worldly things that I was supposed to UNTIL I met a worldly boy that I couldn't stay away from! And my God, he was worth it!
My mother went crazy and my father went crazy and I da'd myself the very next year. My mom says witness kids are like tightly wrapped springs, and when they get into the world they go crazy bouncing from one thing to another. It seems to me though, after reading some of your posts that I didn't go nearly as crazy as I should have!
i pertain to a congregation in the orange county.
from the ages of around 5-16 i went to all the meetings etc etc.
i am currently 18 years of age, although i am not the ''ideal'' christain boy, i have strong faith in jehova.
I think the real newbie's still read the posts and learn
Yes we do!

hey folks!
for those in the u.s. - don't fergit to push yer clocks ahead an hour tonight.. if you _do_, you'll be late to a few appointments tomorrow.. regards,.
Hey Jim,
THANK YOU- for some reason I thought it was tomorrow night! Geez- what a dumb arse! Your comment on being late reminded me of one time forever ago when we forgot and we were REALLY late for the meeting. We were so embarrased we just went out for breakfast instead of going in! HAHA

what was your misconceptions about the gb?
here was one of mine, when folks would ask me why wasn't their any blacks on the gb.
i would say that the blacks weren't educated enough at the time (late 1800's - early 1900's) to govern a worldwide organization.
I know when I left in 1980 or so that it was still preached that blacks were hams decendants and blackness was a curse. That blacks were forever condemned as slaves and inferior.
I grew up a Dub and I am amazed to read this. Never Never was this said at our hall. I also grew up in a suburb of Chicago (so maybe that is why.) I read all of your posts and often wonder how I could have missed some of the things that you folks were taught because we weren't. Amazing!

anyone remember the unwritten tradition that the sunday public speaker would do the closing parayer for the meeting?
thats if he stayed for the watchtower study!.
My best friends dad was an Elder, and it was always fun to go to the visiting congregations (out of the usual rut you know) and he made it very clear that we had to stay until the meeting was over so he could give the prayer.
